Marblehead, OH Autumn Lighthouse Fest Oct. 13

MARBLEHEAD — The 12th Annual Autumn Lighthouse Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Marblehead.

The church is next to the Marblehead Lighthouse State Park — the site of the oldest operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes, at 506 E. Main St., Marblehead.

At St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church hall and grounds, there will be more than 60 vendors displaying quality arts, crafts and collectibles. Handmade food and desserts are available for sale. The Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce sponsors a raffle with prizes donated by members.

Free lighthouse tours are available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marblehead Lighthouse State Park, and the adjacent Keeper’s House Museum will also be open. In addition, the Wolcott House located at 9999 E. Bayshore Road will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It now has a restored pantry.

New this year is the Voices from Ottawa County, Across the Townships, dramatic reading from the Ottawa County oral history collection.

The script represents the broad experience of life in the county with stories from Graytown, Rocky Ridge, Oak Harbor, Elmore, Lakeside, Catawba and the Lake Erie Islands. Included is an interview will Mills Brandes, who lived at the Marblehead Lighthouse for several years in the mid-1920s. Also on tap are a blacksmith, a woodcarver and two musical groups, one playing banjo and hammered dulcimer and the other featuring musical tales of the Great Lakes lighthouses. Bean soup and corn bread will be served.

Many local business will be having sales and specials the weekend of the festival.

There will be signs posted to direct visitors to parking areas. The Lighthouse Festival is a free event.

There will be a shuttle service for convenience. The shuttle will stop at A Yarn Shop, Miss Mercedes and Joseph Wise Fine Clocks Shop. This year the shuttle will also go to the Keeper’s House.
