More debate, delay on the Great Lakes Water Compact; this time it’s Ohio

PORT CLINTON — A debate in the Ohio Senate could put an agreement to keep Great Lakes water from being diverted to drier areas in jeopardy, environmental officials said Tuesday.
… Sen. Timothy Grendell, R-Chesterland, believes it contains some issues that must be addressed and has introduced a bill that would change the text of the compact.
If Grendell’s bill is passed, the compact could be sent back to its starting point, and each state would have to pass it again, said Sam Speck, former Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director, who helped create the compact
“If you open the compact to these things, you open it up to the special interest groups in other states trying to make changes to it they didn’t get the first time around,” Speck said.
