MARQUETTE — The cause of an oil spill from a tug boat in Marquette’s Lower Harbor has been determined.
According to the United States Coast Guard, the Azipod, which is a multi-directional propeller and marine propulsion unit, was torn from the vessel when it grounded. The search for it continues, making a hazard for navigation as well as the environment. The Azipod still holds about 300 gallons of petroleum, despite having released 30 to 50 gallons of gear oil when it was torn from the Dorothy Ann.
