A dozen law enforcement officers braved the waters of Green Bay Monday looking for potential bombs. They’re training for a U.S. Coast Guard test next month using mock explosives.
Officers from Green Bay, Brown County, and Door County suited up to go diving. They went ten miles off shore to a lighthouse. Their mission was to search for anything dangerous.
“There are a lot of different things we have to look for besides little-bitty bombs. They could sink a rubber raft full of explosives in the harbor. We have to search the floor of the harbor as well as the dock walls and the vessels to make sure everything is safe,” Dave Vanerem of the Green Bay Police Department dive team said.
A few years ago the federal government determined these waters could be a target for terrorists. Next month the Coast Guard will test these divers on their ability to find bombs.
